Comments from Paul Martin:
Saint Dunstan's is a very unique and attractive old Catholic Church. From the surviving records and documents it can be safely assumed that a church has stood upon the present site of St Dunstan's from Saxon times (7/8th Century). The earliest known reference is to be found in Sir Montague Sharpe's edition of "Middlesex in British, Roman and Saxon Times", in which he mentions the church at Cranford as one of those built upon the site of a compita, or 'little chapel', which usually stood at the cross-roads, and where the Romans offered sacrifices to their rurual gods twice a year.

When Pope Gregory I sent St Augustine and his missionary priests to Britain he directed them to "utilize the sacred places of the Pagans for the service of the true God, and to adapt them to the uses of the Christian Church." St Dunstan's is also mentioned in the Domesday Book, as is the fact that a virgate of land (about 30 acres) was held for the maintenance of the priest who served at the church prior to the Norman conquest.

I recently enjoyed the opportunity of photographing a small wedding blessing at Saint Dunstans Church. As you one may appreciate from the churches website, Saint Dunstan's is full of character....lots of beautiful figurines and stain galss windows. Although the quality of light is very poor, I was able to capture some beautiful photographs throughout, particularly from the balcony, which is accessed up a very narrow spiral stair case.

The surrounding church gardens provides limited vista's for group and Bride & Groom portraits. I managed to capture a lovely group photograph, confetti and all, immediately outside the entrance to the Church. The Litch Gate also provides a suitable backdrop. However, the opportunities for varied and creative photographs are far greater immediately outside the church grounds, in the surrounding Cranford Park. In particular, I captured some great photographs of the bridal car on the narrow approach road, with characterful wooden fence on either side. Although within the M25, by virtue of it's location within Cranford Park, Saint Dunstan's Church has distinctively rural feel and aspect. The bridal couple and guests then proceeded to a reception and wedding dinner at The Barn Hotel in Ruisplip.

Needless to say, I recommend Saint Dunstan's Church as a suitable location for a small wedding and for memorable wedding photographs.
