Wedding Photography at Woburn Abbey
The Sculpture Gallery, in the South Court of Woburn Abbey, presents an idyllic setting for a wedding, with its Rose Garden and Camellia House presenting a stunning backdrop for the whole event.
The Temple of Liberty, whose romanesque pillars and steps, flanked by fine sculptures, provides a distinguished and elegant setting for the ceremony itself, is set at the end of the splendid Gallery. There are full-length picture windows providing a blaze of natural light during the day, and eight marble columns, topped by Corinthian capitals, support the centre of the Gallery. Additional ante rooms. The Lantern and Long Harness Room provide a flexible range of facilities for pre and post reception drinks, to suit large or small wedding parties; and the Garden terrace provides an additional dimension for wedding guests to enjoy drinks in the open, on warm summer days and evenings.
I had my first opportunity of photographing a wedding, a Jewish wedding, at this fabulous venue in June 2004. The marriage ceremony was a very unique experience for me in that is only one of two events that I have ever photographed outdoors in the UK. The ceremnony took place under a Chupah outside the Sculpture Gallery.
The Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey is a beautiful building in which to photograph. What I found most appealing as a photographer was the natural light which peels into the rooms, so good infact, I did not have to employ the use of flash lighting. The gallery and the surrounding rooms littered with beautiful sculptures and a few paintings ooz class, and, this coupled with large windows/ french doors, provides great ambience for a wedding event.
Even more impressive are the surrounding gardens, outside the gallery, which are beautifully landscaped. There is everything one could wish for: lush green lawns, ornate sculptures, flowering plants, trees, benches and a picturesque lake. All these features, and a relaxed bride and groom, family and wedding guests, enabled me to excel in the photographs I produced of this memorable day. I have a complete portfolio of over 200 photographs of this wedding that shows off Woburn Abbey Sculpture Gallery in all it's glory. These images are largely informal, reportage and modern, providing a visual commentary of the days event, from start to finish. Needless to say, I recommend Woburn Abbey as a fanatastic wedding venue, and for memorable wedding photography.
