Comments from Paul Martin:
All Saints’ Church is a very lovely mediavel Parish Church with an enclosed churchyard, situated right in the centre of the village. There was almost certainly some form of building here in the Saxon period as Christianity came to the area in the 8th Century – but the present building was started during the mid 1200’s.

The church is approached from the south via a broad path lined with flowering trees. Infact, the whole church is surrounded by trees and lawns, which is particularly abundant from east to west side. Inside, All Saints’ Church is charactereised by ornate and detailed features that give you a sense of its rich heritage. Standing in the Nave you look up to the timbered roof with its gold bosses and carvings of Christ flanked by St. Peter (holding the keys to the Kingdom) and St Paul. There are several beautiful stained glass windows throughout.

As a venue for weddings, All Saints Church is a beautiful location. I enjoyed one opportunity of photographing a wedding at All Saints’. Although there are restrictions on photographic coverage inside, the quality of day light peeling in is adeqaute to produce hand held photo sequences with virtually no apparent intrusion. In the evnt of poor weather, the alter is sufficiently wide to facilitate small group photo’s after the ceremony. Outside, the main door way provides an ideal backdrop for a large group photograph of all wedding guests. Nearby, there is a small section of lawn backed by some low lying shrubs that is a suitable background. Elsewhere, the opportunities are limited by virtue of the many toombstones sacttered around the Church yard. There is a beautiful litch gate where the confetti photographs can be taken.

Literally a few minutes walk, The Pink Geranium and Sheene Mill Restaurants provide very suitable and sylish settings for wedding receptions and wedding dinners. The photo taking opportunties at both venues is very good as well.

Overall, All Saints Church Melbourn is an excellent Cambridgeshire venue for a wedding ceremony and for memorable wedding photography.

Although a London based photographer, Paul Martin visits Melbourn quite regularly, as his mother resides in this beautiful Cambridgeshire village.
