Comments from Paul Martin:
Christ the King Roman Catholic Parish has a rich heritage, stretching back 100 years, having been established in response to the growing Catholic population in Wimbledon. The present church was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott and was completed in 1928. The name of the church was changed to Christ the King, whom the Pope had recently established as a new feast, and it was officially opened on 7th October 1928.

I recently enjoyed the opportunity of photographing a wedding on a beautiful Autumnal day in October. From the outside, the Christ the King Catholic Church is unassuming. However, indoors the building is attractive in decor, with a calming ambience. There are quite a few figurines and stone sculpture plaques, depicting the life of Christ and Holy Mother Mary. Photographing inside was relatively straight forward; I was able to capture some beautiful unobtrusive photographs of the marriage ceremony, mainly from the back of the church. The quality of light was sufficient for good photography without having to employ the use of flash lighting. Thus, this made my task of working unobtrusively all the more easier.

Although limited in space and suitable background, I was able to produce some creative outdoor photographs by the doorwell, and main entrance. There is also some trees and shrubs in the church garden to the right, that provides suitable backdrop for portraits at the entrance. However, on this occassion, I defered on group photographs, as the reception of this wedding took place nearby at the stunning Cannizaro House Hotel on Wimbledon Common.

Highlights of the wedding appear below. Needless to say, I recommend Christ the King Roman Catholic Parish as a very suitable Church venue for a wedding in the Wimbledon area, and for memorable wedding photography.
