Comments from Paul Martin:
Hampden House is set in one of the most beautiful areas of the country, amongst the wooded Chiltern Hills, with magnificent views over the valley. This honey-coloured, brick and flint house dates back to the 14th Century and was home to the Hampden family, later the Earls of Buckinghamshire, for over 800 years. The venue is approached up a long drive, flanked with rhododendrons and mature trees. The drive passes the delightful 16th Century parish church and at night is floodlit, creating the most magical atmosphere. The Great Hall is a superb 60ft oak panelled room with a huge fireplace. The Dining Room, overlooking the parkland, is richly decorated in white and gold with ornate plaster mouldings and a carved fireplace. Up to 120 guests can be seated for dining or up to 150 for a canapés reception. The venue is licensed for civil weddings. For dancing and larger weddings the house may be extended with a Marquee.

I recently enjoyed the opportunity of photographing a small civil wedding ceremony in the Great Hall at Hampden House. Although photographing inside this room was a challenging experience due to low light, I managed to capture some beautiful non-intrusive photographs of the ceremony mainly from the balcony. Elsewhere in the House, there are some beautiful light filled rooms. I recorded attractive portraits on the stair case landing.

Without doubt, the main jewel from a photographic perspective, where the opportunities outside. Here, I captured many beautiful informal and formal photographs of the bride and groom with guests on the lawn. The imposing archietecture of Hampden House provided me a range of locations for artistic bride & groom compositions, most notably, the doorwells. The views looking away from the front and back of the House towards rolling hills and trees gives a clear sense of the beauty of this rural location.

Overall, I rate Hampden House as a fantastic wedding venue and one where you are sure to have a very unique and memorable set of photographs of your day. Br>
