Comments from Paul Martin:
St. John’s Wood Synagogue is modern orthodox community and a constituent member of the United Synagogue. It is a popular London Jewish marriage venue, where I have photographed several Jewish wedding events.

St. John’s Wood Synagogue is spacious and well lit, and photographing is considerably better than in most Jewish Synagogues I have visited. I have always been able to capture good informal photographs of proceedings in an unobtrusive fashion. The most striking feature of this Synagogue are the numerous stain glass windows depicting Biblical and Talmudic texts. This if further enhanced by the colourful Chupah and matching floral arrangements, thus, creating a lovely atmosphere.

Although there is no lawn outside, the courtyard is suitable for taking group photographs, and, on my last visit, I captured some creative bride and groom portraits. In the event of rain, there are suitable locations indoors for photography.

There is a large reception hall and the banqueting rooms are newly refurbished and presented to a very high standard. With its dark wood panelling and parquet floor, air conditioning and special lighting the main hall is a fantastic venue for a Jewish wedding dinner and dancing. There is seating for over 200 and there is also a stage. Photographing here is very good, and I captured some great images that conveyed the spirit and atmosphere of the occassion. I have sample photographs of this event that adequately endorse this.

On a more recent wedding shoot, I was again reminded what a lovely venue St. John’s Wood Synagogue is for a Jewish wedding. On this occassion however, the reception followed at the Kensington Roof Gardens Club, nearby.

In summary, St. John’s Wood Synagogue is a fantastic Jewish wedding venue and conducive for producing memorable wedding photographs. Some highlights of my most recent Jewish wedding at St. John’s Wood Synagogue appear below.
