Comments from Paul Martin:
Sheene Mill is a beautiful 17th century water mill, with views to sigh for, set in the village of Melbourn, just 10 miles south of Cambridge. The picturesque setting straddles the River Mel amongst 3 acres of stunning gardens. Owned by the celebrated, T.V. personality chef, Steven Saunders and his wife Sally, Sheene Mill provides you with award-winning food in the brasserie restaurant and 9 Hotel bedrooms.

‘The outward appearance of Sheene Mill is of a neat, white-painted, weather boarded old building’. Once through the door, however, you are into a world of great attraction. The d├ęcor of the dining room – rich yellow walls and table cloths, the colour intensified by the deep blues of the dado rail and chairs — is set off by the huge dramatic prints on the walls and gives a good clue to the vibrancy and panache of the food.

Although an award-winning chef, Steven, a Master Chef of Great Britain, has never abandoned his kitchen skills and chefs in favour of the small screen. He bought Sheene Mill in 1998, and it has been voted the most fashionable outside London and been listed in the Top Ten Wedding venues for the UK. It has also featured in a six-page spread in OK magazine (August 1999). Indeed, so popular is Sheene Mill, I understand that it is booked most weekends, Fridays and Saturdays, through until 2007!

The dining room seats up to 120 (160 with adjoining marquee) and now offers excellent facilities for wedding receptions, private parties, dinner dances and conferences. Sheene Mill also benefits from a wedding licence to perform the ceremony.

Although the only event I covered to date, was a small birthday celebration, I enjoyed photographing at Sheene Mill. This characterful Cambridgeshire hotel is an idyllic venue for a wedding, with it’s beautiful situation, surrounding lawns and mill pond, providing all the props for creative wedding photography. I am looking forward to covering my next event at Sheene Mill.

Although a London based photographer, Paul Martin visits Melbourn quite regularly, as his mother resides in this beautiful Cambridgeshire village. To this end, I am happy to meet prospective enquirers at Sheene Mill to offer my thoughts and ideas regarding maximising photo opportunities at this delightful venue.
