Comments from Paul Martin:
As the Cathedral of the capital city, St Paul’s is the spiritual focus for the Nation. This is where people and events of overwhelming importance to the country have been celebrated, mourned and commemorated since the first Service took place in 1697. The current Cathedral – the fourth to occupy this site – was designed by the court architect Sir Christopher Wren and built between 1675 and 1710 after its predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. Its architectural and artistic importance reflect the determination of the five monarchs who oversaw its building that London’s leading church should be as beautiful and imposing as their private palaces.

St Paul’s Cathedral is truly a unique setting for a wedding. I enjoyed the rare opportunity of photographing a wedding at this historical London landmark. The event, a small wedding, took place in a chapel in the Crypt. Photographing here was quite straightforward. However, I particularly enjoyed taking wedding photographs of the bride and groom with their guests outside, set off against the majestic archietecture of the pillars. The gardens on the north wing with many trees, flowering plants and benches provide ample room and options for beautiful outdoor photographs.

There are great situations for original and creative photographs by old post and phone boxes, and I also took some great reportage photographs on the Millenium bridge and panoramic images overlooking the Thames.

Further to previous visits, I have since recently photographed a winter wedding at St. Paul’s. Some of the highlights appear below the first 14 photographs. The wedding reception and dinner followed at Percento (Italian) Restaurant, nearby in Ludgate Hill.
