Comments from Paul Martin:
Picturesque Staple Inn Hall offers romance and tranquillity in the heart of London – perfect for your wedding reception. As you step through the imposing Tudor entrance of Staple Inn into its peaceful rose-filled courtyard, it is hard to believe that you are just steps away from bustling Holborn in central London. If you are searching for an extra special wedding reception venue, which you and your guests can easily reach, then this is ideal.

Built in the sixteenth century, the Hall retains many of its original features, from the magnificent Elizabethan hammer beam roof and intricate stained glass windows to the rich oak panelling and splendid minstrel’s gallery, making a suitably grand setting for London weddings. Staple Inn Hall can accommodate up to 120 guests for silver service dining and 200 for a stand-up buffet reception. Staple Inn is not licensed for civil ceremonies but marriage blessings may be carried out in the Hall. However, there are numerous churches nearby, most notably: St.Paul’s, St. Etheldreda’s and St. Brides Church.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the occassions on which I have photographed weddings receptions at Staple Inn. As described above, all the ornate and historic features provide fantastic props for reportage and creative wedding photography. Although small, the private rose garden provides sufficient space for guests to enjoy champagne reception, and area to undertake any formal group photography. I found the steps and the doorwell to the garden a useful location for doing some groups. Equally impressive, is the cobbled courtyard, which lends itself to some great black and white photography. In the event of rain, there is a small libary upstairs which can be used.

The main higlight of this unique and historic venue is of course, Staple Inn Hall. Here I have always been able to capture some great atmospheric photographs, mainly informal-repoartage sequences. Although lighting is low, and consequently a challenging environment for photography, this can be overcome by a knowlegeable cameraman.

Needles to say, Staple Inn Hall is a fantastic London wedding reception venue, and for producing memorable wedding photography; I recommend it very highly.
